Unique & Unforgettable

Texas Longhorn Safari

The Texas Longhorn Safari is the perfect way to see and learn about the fascinating history of these historical and magnificent cattle. They are direct descendents of the millions of Texas Longhorns that walked in the great trail herds from Texas in the late 1800's.

Get up close (and sometimes personal) to the spectacular herd of genuine full-blood Texas Longhorns including the longest horned cattle in Australia. There are also Asian Water Buffalo, American Bison, Mexican Sardo Negro, African Ankole Watusi and Scottish Highland cattle... A bovine experience like no other!

Sit back and take in the History of the Texas Longhorns video presentation filmed on location at Leahton Park under the shade of 'Wagon Wheel' dining shed.

An unforgettable part of this unique experience is the tour of the ‘The Longhorn Love Shack’. You will also get to see the brand new ‘JR Gallery of Horns’ including our own Guinness World Record horned steer on display. Finish your visit off with a delicious Aussie Bush smoko (morning tea) under the big shade trees at the homestead.

Your Texas Longhorn Safari

  1. On Arrival - Meet your hosts and fellow travellers. Sit back and relax at the ‘Wagon Wheel’ dining shed and enjoy a unique video display and ‘Old West’ historical narrative of the famous Texas Longhorn breed of cattle.

  2. See the Texas Longhorns - Get on board the Polaris Rangers. These easy access vehicles are the perfect way to experience ‘up close and personal’ the animals on display. You might even be asked if you’d like to be the driver of one of the Safari Rangers - they are easy to drive and fun so don’t miss that opportunity if asked.

  3. Traditional Aussie smoko - We will have tea brewed for you on return from Safari - brewed the old way in vintage enamel teapots just like grandma used to do - we use Bushells ‘Blue Label' tea leaves of course. If hot tea isn’t for you, we have juice and cold water available as well. Home cooked Anzac bikkies and the best Pecan slice this side of Texas baked by our Aunt who is the best darn cook in Charters Towers!

  4. Longhorn Love Shack Tour - Learn how we breed our Texas Longhorns and see the cattle working facilities, designed especially for these BIG horns.

  5. JR Gallery of Horns - The experience includes admittance to this brand new addition. On display is JR - longest horned beast who has ever lived in Australia and  Guiness World Record holder. His horns exceed 10 feet 4 inches from tip to tip or 3.15 metres. There are also other interesting items on display including an 1880’s replica Texas Trail herd saddle made right here in the Bethel Saddlery custom saddle shop.

  6. Horns & Hides Gift Shop - Browse the gift shop and Saddlery or just soak up more of the atmosphere of Leahton Park.

  7. Happy Trails - There is a lot to see and the hardest part for you will be leaving. Travel safely!
